The Story Behind the Photograph
When I first came to Hawaiʻi from Japan on vacation, I went to Ala Moana Beach with a friend to watch the sunset.
I still remember sitting there and watching the sky change over the ocean. The colors, the warmth, and the feeling of being surrounded by the sea felt so different from anything I had experienced before.
Later, I returned to the same beach with my camera and started experimenting with long exposure. Instead of capturing the sunset exactly as my eyes saw it, I wanted to slow everything down—to capture the softness of the light, the movement of the ocean, and that quiet feeling I remembered.
When I looked at the result, I remember thinking, “Is this an art piece?”
That photograph became Moody Ocean.
For me, this image isn't simply about a sunset. It's about that feeling of being still, watching the ocean move, and letting the world slow down for a moment.
